Tortuguero

Tortuguero National Park is in the Pococi district of Limon province, in the country’s Atlantic zone. This park is located within the Tortuguero Conservation Area, and is well known for its famous canals.

Tortuguero has one of Costa Rica’s wildest natural environments, with the widest variety of biological diversity. There have been eleven habitats identified here, as well as 2000 plant species, 400 tree species, and a vast array of wildlife.

This is the most important area for Green Turtle spawning in the western half of the Caribbean. Leatherback and Hawksbill sea turtles are other species that spawn on this beach. A beautifully scenic, naturally occurring system of lagoons and waterways runs through the park.
