Puerto Viejo

When Costa Ricans who aren’t from the country’s Atlantic zone visit Puerto Viejo, they feel as though they’re on another planet. Puerto Viejo (and its surrounding areas) is unique in terms of Costa Rica’s tourist destinations, as there is nowhere else quite like it.

This coastal area spans across several beaches including Puerto Viejo, Cocles, Chiquita, Punta Uva and finally Manzanillo. These beaches are all characterized by how close the foliage is to the sea, and by their pale sand and light blue waters. There are touristic areas around the beaches where you can find bars, hotels, and restaurants. There are also sparsely populated areas where you can have the beach almost entirely to yourself. This is also an excellent destination for surfers.

There’s a wide variety of ways to spend a few days enjoying the paradisiacal beauty of this area in Limon province on the country’s Caribbean coast, and you’ll have a hard time deciding which of the beaches here is the most beautiful.
